Some things are a bit confusing when you first learn about them. For me, the best approach is to get a compare this new thing to something I already know and then accentuate some differences.

So here goes… Volt MX is like Notes Designer. You build applications in it with a drag and drop interface, but you can add code too. The code goes in buttons, but can also go in scripts (aka agents), just like in Notes.

But… it has nothing to do with Notes and Domino. It’s a low-code platform like Mendix or Outsystems. Volt MX is the low-code platform. Foundry is the server that it runs on. Foundry can be run in the Cloud or on-premise. Like other low-code platforms, it can easily connect to databases and allows drag-drop design of interfaces. It can publish designs to web applications or to mobile apps. It has version control and CI/CD capabilities. It help visualize business logic, etc. All good stuff… but nothing to do with Notes or Domino…until now. 

There is an “enhanced” version of Volt MX called Volt MX Go. The “Go” means it has native connections to Notes and Domino. So, again, it’s a low-code platform but it can easily connect to Notes data and/or it has features that help you convert Notes applications to Volt MX applications.
